Hiking Warren Dunes

Warren Dunes is a wonderful place to explore one of this regions most interesting and fun ecosystem: the dunes of Lake Michigan. The adventure club came here back in the fall for a day of hiking. This Saturday a group of 12 returned to check out how things have changed. The wind was harsh at the parking lot, so we opted to hike away from the lakshore where it was a bit more protected. The snow wasn’t very high and in many places had frozen into a solid ice crust that made for some easy hiking and extreme trail sledding. We finished the loop on the lakeshore where the wind was now at our backs. We ventured out onto the frozen lake, but not too far since nobody really felt like taking a swim. Following the hike, we ate lunch at Greenbush brewery in Sawyer and then back home.
