Winding straight across Mishawaka and South Bend, you’ve probably seen Judy (or Juday) Creek without even knowing it and you’ve definitely crossed over it many times. Its banks are mostly lined with residential properties that make it inaccessible to anyone on land. However you can reach it at any of the road crossings without too much effort. In theory there is plenty of water for this creek to be paddleable with a small kayak. The hardest part will be the areas where property owners have modified it with rocks or side streams to make it prettier on their land. But I think you should be able to force your way through if you want. This isn’t going to be a very natural paddling experience nor will it be relaxing, but it will let you see a little bit of the natural underbelly of the city that you probably never have. Be careful about getting off the creek because you will probably be on private property. The creek ends at the St. Joseph River at a point across from a boat launch on the Northside trail.
